In a significant move, the Ganjam district administration in Odisha has initiated the electrification process of Subarnapur, a small tribal village, following a directive from Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. The chief minister had mentioned the village's lack of electricity during his address at the District Collectors' and SPs conference in Bhubaneswar, where he set a 2027 deadline for power and water supply in every village across the state. According to officials, the district administration and Tata Power Southern Odisha Distribution Limited have begun installing electric poles and a 25-kva transformer in Subarnapur, which has 25 households. The electrification work is expected to be completed within the next seven to ten days. Subarnapur, which was previously electrified through solar panels, had lost power several years ago due to a defunct system. The villagers were unaware of the issue, forcing them to rely on lanterns and candles for lighting. This is not an isolated case, as at least seven other tribal-dominated villages in Dharakote block remain in darkness. Block Development Officer Sangram Keshari Jena has informed Tata Power Southern Odisha Distribution Limited of the need to prioritize the electrification of these villages. The chief minister's direction is expected to bring a significant change to the lives of the rural population in Odisha.
