In a shocking turn of events, Puja alias Sejal John, an Odisha native adopted by an American woman in 2018, has confessed to making false allegations of torture and forced conversion against her adoptive mother. Puja, who was brought back to Odisha with the help of the Ministry of External Affairs and the Odisha government, revealed that she had made the false claims to facilitate her return to the state. According to Puja, she was in love with a man in Balasore and wanted to return to Odisha to be with him. Her visa had also expired in 2023, which added to her desire to return home. In a previous video post, Puja had alleged abuse and forced religious conversion by her American mother, but she has now retracted these claims, stating that they were false. Puja, who was born in 2006 and separated from her biological parents while traveling, was rescued by Childline and brought to Odisha. She was adopted by the American woman seven years ago and had been living with her in the US. Police sources revealed that Puja had come into contact with the boy she was in love with through social media in 2023. The Odisha government and the Ministry of External Affairs had coordinated efforts to bring Puja back to the state after she made an emotional public appeal for help. Puja has now been taken into police custody and is being taken to Balasore. The incident has raised questions about the vulnerability of adopted children and the need for better support systems for them.
