In a tense escalation between India and Pakistan, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) thwarted a targeted attack on the Uri hydroelectric plant near the Line of Control (LoC). The incident occurred hours after India launched Operation Sindoor, a military operation targeting terrorist hideouts across the LoC. According to CISF, the Pakistani Army launched intense and indiscriminate shelling on Indian territory, endangering vital infrastructure and civilian populations. CISF units at the NHPC installations, situated just a few kilometers from the LoC, were at the forefront of the sudden escalation. Despite heavy gunfire, CISF personnel under Commandant Ravi Yadav took swift action to shield the installations and surrounding township. They successfully neutralized hostile drones targeting the area and secured armoury stockpiles to prevent potential destruction. The team also undertook door-to-door evacuation of civilians, including women, children, and NHPC staff, often amidst ongoing shelling. The government's intelligence network and prepared on-ground troops were instrumental in foiling the attack. The Uri hydro power project was among the first targets, but the CISF's vigilance and preparedness ensured the integrity of critical national assets remained intact. Nineteen CISF personnel who played a crucial role in neutralizing the drones and evacuating civilians were awarded the prestigious Director General's disc at a ceremony in New Delhi. Their bravery and quick thinking prevented any loss of life and ensured the safety of the surrounding community.
