With just seven days left before the December 31 deadline, thousands of PAN card holders are at risk of having their cards rendered inoperative if they fail to link their Aadhaar card. This is according to the Income Tax Department's rules, which mandate Aadhaar linking for PAN holders who obtained their PAN before July 1, 2017. As a result, defaulters may face disruptions in services that rely on their PAN cards, including tax payments and other financial transactions. To avoid this, individuals can link their PAN with Aadhaar by following these simple steps: 1. Visit the e-filing portal and log in with your credentials. 2. Navigate to the profile section and click on the 'Link Aadhaar' option. 3. Enter your PAN and Aadhaar numbers and proceed to pay the applicable fee. 4. Select the relevant assessment year and payment type, and complete the payment process. 5. Once the payment is made, you can link your PAN with Aadhaar on the e-filing portal. To check the status of your PAN-Aadhaar linkage, visit the e-filing portal and click on 'Link Aadhaar status.' Enter your PAN and Aadhaar details, and the applicable status will be displayed on your screen. If you encounter any issues with mismatched details on your Aadhaar and PAN cards, you can visit the UIDAI portal to correct the errors on your Aadhaar card. For PAN card corrections, visit Protean (NSDL) or UTIITSL. In case of persistent errors, opt for biometric verification at your nearest authorised PAN service centre.
