Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar is facing backlash over his recent statement that voters should back his party to receive development funds. However, Pawar claims he was simply emphasizing the importance of voting in local elections, and that allegations against him over the years have never resulted in wrongdoing. Pawar made the comments at a campaign event in Parbhani district ahead of the December 2 municipal polls. He acknowledged that those in public office may occasionally make mistakes, but insisted he has never owed anyone anything due to his 35-year career in politics. The NCP leader also used the opportunity to express concerns about the uneven enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct. He pointed out that private groups are allegedly going door-to-door, asking voters about their personal lives, while Election Commission officials seem to be turning a blind eye. Pawar urged the Election Commission to act impartially and ensure that laws are applied equally to all citizens. He highlighted the importance of state and central welfare schemes, emphasizing that they should benefit the region, not just remain on paper. The controversy surrounding Pawar's comment has sparked a heated debate, with the Opposition demanding an apology and accusing him of threatening voters. However, Pawar remains committed to his focus on development and rehabilitation, and is urging voters to make informed decisions in the upcoming polls.
