Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Lok Sabha on Thursday, taking a jibe at SP chief Akhilesh Yadav while highlighting his own humble beginnings from a backward community.

PM Modi said that even though he comes from a backward community, it is his responsibility to take everyone along, while speaking in support of the Women’s Reservation Bill in the Lok Sabha.

He added that those who oppose the women quota bill will pay a price for a long time, and that this move will not benefit any specific party.

Responding to Akhilesh Yadav's jibe, PM Modi said, 'Akhilesh ji (Yadav) is my friend, so at times he does offer support.'
