Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday celebrated the rich spiritual heritage of Udupi at the Laksha Kantha Gita Parayana event, where he recited the Bhagwat Gita alongside over one lakh devotees. Addressing the gathering, PM Modi highlighted the region's pioneering role in good governance, tracing its origins back to the Jana Sangh's VS Acharya, who was elected to the Udupi Municipal Corporation in 1968. Udupi's innovative model of cleanliness, water supply, and drainage systems, adopted five decades ago, has become a benchmark for the nation. The Prime Minister drew parallels between Udupi and Dwarka in Gujarat, hailing the founder of the Sri Krishna Math, Jagadguru Madhwaachaarya, and recalling his own spiritual experiences in Dwarka. During the event, PM Modi also inaugurated the Suvarna Teertha Mantapa and dedicated the Kanaka Kavacha to the sacred Kanakana Kindi. The event, which brought together people from diverse backgrounds, exemplified the power of spiritual unity and social harmony, as PM Modi said, 'When one lakh people recite shlokas together, the energy released gives new strength to our minds and bodies.'
