In a significant visit to the historic Kanaka Mantap in Udupi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday paid tribute to Kirthanakar Kanakadasa, the revered 14th-15th century saint-philosopher. Kanakadasa is known for the famous legend of Lord Krishna's idol turning westward at the Udupi Sri Krishna Temple. Modi joined over a lakh devotees in the 'Laksha Geeta Pathana,' a mass recitation of the Bhagavad Gita. Accompanied by Paryaya Puthige Math seer, Sugunendra Thirtha, and other dignitaries, the PM participated in the event and read out hymns from the sacred text. During his visit, Modi acknowledged the cultural significance of Kanakadasa's devotion and the enduring legacy of the temple. This marks Modi's second visit to the Krishna temple, having previously visited in 2008 as the Chief Minister of Gujarat. The Prime Minister was welcomed with traditional honors and presented with sacred gifts, symbolizing the importance of the temple's cultural heritage in South India.
