Prime Minister Narendra Modi's helicopter was forced to return to Kolkata due to dense fog on Saturday, preventing it from landing in West Bengal's Taherpur. The PM had planned to address a rally in Nadia, but instead addressed it via phone due to the travel disruption. The decision to return to Kolkata was made after the helicopter hovered over the helipad for a while, unable to land due to low visibility. PM Modi had reached Kolkata earlier in the day and was scheduled to inaugurate several national highway projects, including a 4-lane stretch of NH-34. In a tweet ahead of his visit, PM Modi criticized the Trinamool Congress government, saying its 'misrule' was causing suffering for the people despite Centre's schemes benefiting the state. The PM's visit comes amid heightened political tensions over the SIR exercise in West Bengal. Despite the setback, PM Modi's message to the people of Nadia was clear: 'The looting and intimidation by the Trinamool have crossed all limits. That is why today, the BJP is the only hope and trust of the people'.
