Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on the Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Saturday, asserting that West Bengal is in dire need of a change to end the "maha jungle raj" plaguing the state. Addressing a rally in Nadia district virtually, Modi criticized the state government over mismanagement, allegations of corruption, and illegal infiltration from Bangladesh. Modi drew parallels with the recent election in Bihar, where voters rejected "jungle raj" and opted for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government. He assured the people of Bengal that a BJP government will work to bring back the state's lost glory and provide a double-engine government to drive development. The PM's visit comes at a time when the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) is underway in West Bengal, and the ruling TMC has been attacking the Centre and Election Commission of India over the exercise. Over 5.82 million names of dead, duplicate, shifted, and absent voters have been dropped from the draft roll. Modi accused the TMC of shielding infiltrators and appeasing them to occupy Bengal. He assured the people of West Bengal that a BJP government will take stricter action against infiltrators and work towards the development of the state. The PM also requested the people to give the BJP a chance to form the government in the state, citing the party's commitment to working for Bengal's development. He assured the Matua community, a Hindu sect largely migrated from Bangladesh, that the BJP will always serve them and provide them with dignity. The TMC hit back, accusing the Centre of withholding Bengal's rightful funds, denying wages to rural poor, and blocking funds for essential services. The TMC also questioned the Centre's decision to not resume MGNREGA in Bengal despite clear directives from the Supreme Court.
