In a virtual rally in West Bengal's Nadia district, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for an end to the 'maha jungle raj' in the state. He praised the people of Bihar for rejecting the 'jungle raj' during the recent Assembly elections and stated that the BJP is poised to repeat this success in West Bengal. Modi emphasized that the BJP's victory in Bihar is a significant step towards the party's triumph in Bengal. He noted that the Matua community, a key demographic in the region, is eagerly awaiting the BJP's arrival. The Prime Minister also highlighted the need for a double-engine government to bring about development and prosperity in the state. The rally was held amidst a backdrop of controversy, with at least three BJP workers killed in a train accident while on their way to attend the event. Modi condoled the deaths in his speech, while the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) accused the BJP of ignoring the incident and prioritizing the Prime Minister's visit. The TMC has been opposing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in West Bengal, which aims to update the electoral rolls and remove dead, duplicate, or shifted voters. Modi accused the TMC of shielding infiltrators and opposing the SIR to protect their interests. The Prime Minister also criticized the TMC for its handling of development projects in the state, stating that the party is more interested in 'cuts and commissions' than in providing for the people. He appealed to the people of Bengal to give the BJP a chance to form the government and bring about development and prosperity. The TMC, however, hit back at the BJP, accusing it of ignoring the train accident and prioritizing the Prime Minister's visit. The party also slammed the BJP for freezing funds to the state and withholding rightful funds from Bengal. As the West Bengal assembly elections approach in 2026, the stage is set for a intense battle between the BJP and the TMC. Modi's visit and his call for breaking free from the 'maha jungle raj' are likely to have a significant impact on the outcome of the elections.
