The Puducherry electoral rolls have undergone a significant revision, with a staggering 103,000 names removed due to various reasons, including death, migration, and duplication. The latest draft voter list, published by the district election officer, brings the total number of eligible voters in Puducherry down to 918,000 from 1,021,000 as of October 27. According to the chief electoral officer, around 80,645 voters have shifted or are absent, while 20,798 have been classified as deceased. Notably, the Ozhukarai assembly constituency has the highest number of uncollectible forms – 6,139 – while the Bahour assembly constituency has the lowest – 1,651. The electoral rolls are now open for claims and objections, allowing genuine electors to be added back in during the period from December 16 to January 15, 2026. The final voters list is scheduled to be released on February 14. Interestingly, around 2,024 voters have enrolled in multiple places, with the CEO stating that their names will be retained only at one location. The district election officer has assured that the revision process will be transparent, participative, and inclusive, ensuring that no eligible elector is left out and no ineligible name remains in the Electoral Rolls. Any aggrieved electors can appeal to the District Magistrate and then to the chief electoral officer under Section 24 of the RP Act, 1950.
