In a dramatic turn of events, Kanchanpreet Kaur, the daughter of Shiromani Akali Dal leader Sukhwinder Kaur Randhawa, was released early Sunday morning after a Tarn Taran court struck down a non-bailable warrant against her. The hearing, which began at 10 pm on Saturday, lasted until 1 am and concluded at 4 am. The case against Kanchanpreet, who was arrested on Friday, stems from allegations of intimidation during the Tarn Taran bypoll. The police had sought a 10-day police remand, but the court acknowledged that her arrest was unconstitutional and raised questions about the police action. Kanchanpreet's counsel, Arshdeep Singh Kler, argued that the arrest was illegal and unlawful. The court ultimately allowed Kanchanpreet to be released, citing the lack of a valid non-bailable warrant. This development comes as the SAD leadership has called the case a 'political vendetta' by the opposition government. Kanchanpreet was already facing four poll-related cases, in which she had obtained anticipatory bail. The case has sparked controversy, with the opposition accusing the government of using the law to target its opponents. Meanwhile, the government has maintained that the arrest was necessary to uphold the law.
