Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday made a significant announcement during a gathering to commemorate the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur. The CM revealed plans to establish a world-class university in Guru Tegh Bahadur's name in Anandpur Sahib. This decision comes after a request from Arvind Kejriwal, the national convener, to establish a high-end educational institution in the city. In addition to the university announcement, Mann also unveiled plans for a free e-rickshaw or mini bus service to facilitate visits to gurdwaras in Amritsar, Talwandi Sabo, and Anandpur Sahib. The state government will cover the expenses for this service. Furthermore, a heritage street will be developed in Anandpur Sahib. These announcements follow the Punjab Assembly's unanimous decision to declare Anandpur Sahib, Talwandi Sabo, and Amritsar's walled city as holy cities. The resolution, passed on Monday, prohibits the sale and use of meat, liquor, tobacco, and other intoxicants within these cities. The CM highlighted the significance of Anandpur Sahib, stating that it is home to three of the five 'Takhts' of Sikhs: Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Sri Damdama Sahib, and Takht Sri Keshgarh Sahib. The events surrounding the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur have been marked by a series of celebrations, including the 'ardas' performed by Mann and Kejriwal at Gurdwara Baba Budha Dal Chauni. The Punjab government has organised various events from November 23-25 to commemorate this significant occasion.
