In a bid to tackle the recurring problem of waterlogging on Mathura Road, the Public Works Department (PWD) has announced plans to construct a new kerb channel drain. This comes after years of flooding in the area, particularly during the monsoon season, despite extensive redevelopment work carried out ahead of the G-20 summit in 2022. The PWD has identified 126 locations, including Mathura Road and Indraprastha Flyover Road, as 'high-risk' areas under its flood control order this year. As part of the new initiative, the PWD will also build a kerb channel drain along Mathura Road from the W-point skywalk to DPS Mathura Road, which is expected to be completed within a month. Additionally, the department has issued a tender for seepage repair work inside the Pragati Maidan underground tunnel at a cost of ₹3 crore. The PWD has taken several measures to address the issue, including constructing a new stormwater drain and installing CCTV cameras at multiple locations last year.
