Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not commenting on the sinking of the Iranian warship IRIS Dena by the US in the Indian Ocean.

Gandhi claimed the conflict has 'reached our backyard' and questioned the prime minister's silence on the matter.

The Iranian warship sank after a US submarine torpedoed it near Sri Lanka, with US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth confirming the incident.

Gandhi stated that India's oil supplies are under threat, with over 40% of imports transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh also criticized the Centre for not issuing an official statement on the matter.

Ramesh referred to the Modi government's silence on the targeted assassinations in Iran and stated that the Indian government looks 'timid and fearful'.

Iran lashed out at the US for sinking its warship in international waters without warning, with Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araghchi issuing a firm warning to Washington.
