Lucknow, Rajasthan - In a keynote address at the 86th All India Conference of Presiding Officers, Rajasthan Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani emphasized the importance of respecting minority voices in a legislative assembly. He argued that a vibrant democracy relies on the unwavering trust of the people, which is built through consistent behavior, continuous dialogue, and responsibility. Devnani stressed that legislators should act as trustees of the Constitution, putting the needs of the people above their own interests. He emphasized that a strong legislature is not defined by the majority's power, but by its ability to listen to and respect the voices of the minority. Devnani also highlighted the importance of transparency in governance, stating that dissenting voices are essential in reviewing government decisions and ensuring that public funds are spent effectively. He encouraged presiding officers to act as guardians, prioritizing public interest and promoting open dialogue in the House. The 86th All India Presiding Officers' Conference is taking place in Lucknow from January 19 to 21, with a focus on strengthening democratic institutions and promoting good governance.
