The Rajasthan High Court has taken a significant step towards promoting women's safety on ride-hailing platforms. In a recent court order, Justice Ravi Chirania directed the state government to ensure that at least 15% of drivers on popular ride-hailing apps are women within the next six months. The target is expected to rise to 25% in the next two to three years. Additionally, the court has mandated that female passengers should be given the option to choose a woman driver as their first preference on these platforms. This directive is part of a broader effort to overhaul Rajasthan's cyber-policing network, which the court has deemed inadequate in tackling digital crimes. The court has also called for the establishment of a Rajasthan Cyber Crime Control Centre and stricter verification processes for SIM card issuances, inactive bank accounts, and internet banking transactions. Furthermore, the court has directed banks and financial institutions to suspend internet banking services for suspicious accounts or those with low transaction activity. The state government has also been instructed to formalize a registration system for gig workers under the Director General, Cyber Crimes office.
