Rajinikanth Honoured with Lifetime Achievement Award at IFFI 2025 in Goa

The 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa came to a close on Friday, with a star-studded ceremony that celebrated the best of global cinema. Indian cinema icon Rajinikanth was the centre of attention as he received the Government of India's lifetime achievement award for completing 50 years in the film industry. The veteran actor expressed gratitude for the honour and credited his love for cinema and acting for making time fly by. In a thrilling finale, the Vietnamese film 'Skin of Youth' emerged as the winner of the prestigious 'Golden Peacock' Award for Best Feature Film. Director Ashleigh Mayfair, who was present at the festival, described the film as a deeply personal story that explores the journey of a transgender woman and her struggles for dignity and rights. The film also won a cash prize of ₹40-lakh and a certificate. The festival saw a total of 15 fiction feature films competing for the coveted Golden Peacock Award, including three from India. The Norwegian film 'Safe House', directed by Eirik Svensson, was awarded the ICFT–UNESCO Gandhi Medal for its portrayal of the intense hours inside a Doctors Without Borders hospital during the 2013 civil war in the Central African Republic. Rajinikanth, who has acted in over 170 films across multiple languages, thanked the government for the recognition and expressed his love for cinema and acting. The actor has received numerous accolades, including the Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan, and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Other winners at the festival included Ubeimar Rios, who received the Silver Peacock for Best Actor (Male) for his role in the Columbian film 'A Poet', and Karan Singh Tyagi, who won the Best Debut Director of Indian Feature Film Award for his critically acclaimed film 'Kesari Chapter 2'. The Best Web Series (OTT) award was given to 'Bandish Bandits Season 02' directed by Anand Tiwari.
