In a dramatic turn of events, the Rajya Sabha witnessed a heated debate on Wednesday, sparked by AITC member Dola Sen's concerns over the Ministry of Home Affairs' November 25 directive to rename all Raj Bhavans as Lok Bhavans. Sen questioned the government's decision-making process, stating that neither the Parliament, Assembly, nor the Cabinet was aware of the change. However, her remarks took a contentious turn when she brought up unrelated issues like MGNREGA, prompting the Chair to intervene and expunge the remarks from the record. The Leader of the House, J P Nadda, objected to Sen's deviation, claiming that her comments were not relevant to the subject at hand. Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge defended Sen, arguing that her remarks were connected to the subject and that the government was stifling debate. The Chair maintained that proceedings were being conducted properly, urging members to stick to listed subjects during Zero Hour.
