A 21-year-old man, Muniyaraj, has been arrested for allegedly stabbing a 12th-grade girl to death in broad daylight in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu. The victim, a resident of Cherankottai, had repeatedly rejected the man's love proposal, prompting him to stalk and harass her. Despite warnings from her family, the accused, who lived in the same area, continued to pressure her. The girl was on her way to school on Wednesday morning when Muniyaraj confronted her on a public road and allegedly stabbed her multiple times with a knife. She collapsed at the spot and succumbed to her injuries before medical help could reach. Passersby alerted police, and the accused was tracked down by a special team and taken into custody. The incident has sparked outrage, with political parties condemning the DMK government for its handling of the situation. AIADMK leader Edappadi K Palaniswami demanded maximum punishment for the accused, while PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss called for the death penalty and a compensation of ₹25 lakh for the victim's family. BJP Tamil Nadu unit President Nainar Nagenthran expressed condolences to the victim's family and vowed to deliver swift justice to end the 'reign of terror' by the DMK. The police have registered a case of murder and are investigating the incident. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and a preliminary inquiry has revealed that the accused had been stalking the girl for days and had even been warned by her family to stop harassing her.
