A shocking case of deception has come to light in Greater Noida, where a 33-year-old man was arrested by the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) for impersonating a Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) officer and an army major. The man, Sunit Kumar, allegedly used forged identities to secure over 17 rental flats, open bank accounts, and operate shell companies. Kumar's elaborate masquerade was not limited to his personal life. He even convinced his wife, a judge in a neighboring state, that he was a RAW officer. However, she was shocked to learn the truth when the STF contacted her during questioning. According to investigators, Kumar had been living in Greater Noida for over a year, hopping from one rental flat to another while posing as an intelligence operative. He had also told his family members, including his mother and a brother, that he worked with RAW. Kumar's scheme began to unravel when he repeatedly threatened STF personnel during questioning, claiming that his wife was a judicial officer and that he was a central agency officer. Alarmed, the STF officers contacted his wife, and she was shocked to learn that her husband was not a RAW officer. Police said Kumar used his fabricated designations to secure homes and open bank accounts for shell companies that he operated with his cousin. He rotated money between accounts to show inflated profits in a company he had hoped to list for an IPO. Two accounts holding ₹81 lakh have been seized so far. From his possession, police recovered fake identity cards, PAN cards, voter IDs, rent agreements, chequebooks, bank cards, laptops, tablets, and other documents. Investigators are now scanning his devices to trace the money trail. A case under relevant sections of cheating, impersonation, forgery, and IT Act provisions has been registered at Surajpur police station. Kumar's cousin is likely to be named as a co-accused. The STF officials said that Kumar's wife has not been named as she is a serving judge.
