The Centre has appointed senior advocate Madhav Khurana as the Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) to lead the Red Fort blast case investigation. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is probing the case, and Khurana's appointment is aimed at handling the trial and related matters before the NIA Special Court and the Delhi High Court. According to a home ministry notification dated December 2, 2025, Khurana's term will be for three years or until the trial is completed, whichever comes first. The move comes as the NIA has arrested seven individuals linked to the case, which is believed to be connected to a 'white-collar' terror module uncovered by the Jammu and Kashmir Police. The blast on August 31, 2025, near the Red Fort killed 13 people and injured over two dozen others when an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) detonated inside a car. Investigators say the vehicle was allegedly driven by suicide bomber Umar Un Nabi, and the car was registered in the name of accused Amir Rashid Ali. A Delhi court has extended the police custody of Amir Rashid Ali for another seven days, following his earlier remand to NIA custody on November 26. Ali was arrested on November 16, and investigators have examined 73 witnesses, including those injured in the explosion, as the probe continues.
