Renowned Congress Leader Sriprakash Jaiswal Passes Away at 81; Kharge Pays Tribute

Veteran Congress leader and former Union minister Sriprakash Jaiswal has passed away in Kanpur after suffering a cardiac arrest. He was 81 years old. Jaiswal, a Kanpur native, spent his entire life dedicated to the development of his hometown, a fact that earned him the respect and admiration of his peers and constituents. Jaiswal was a prominent figure in the UPA government, serving as the minister of state for home affairs from 2004 to 2009 and later as the coal minister from 2011 to 2014. His dedication to public service began early, as he was elected as the Mayor of Kanpur in 1989. He went on to become a three-term MP from Kanpur constituency, representing the city in the 13th Lok Sabha, and later in the 14th and 15th Lok Sabha. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has condoled Jaiswal's death, describing him as a 'true and loyal Congressman' who worked tirelessly for the benefit of Kanpur. Senior party leader Har Prakash Agnihotri echoed Kharge's sentiments, saying that Jaiswal's departure is a significant loss for the Congress party and the people of Kanpur. Jaiswal is survived by his wife Maya Rani Jaiswal, two sons, one daughter, and two grandchildren. His family was by his side during his final hours. Throughout his life, Jaiswal remained committed to his hometown, using his influence to bring international attention to issues affecting Kanpur. His legacy as a devoted public servant and a champion of Kanpur's development will be remembered for years to come.
