Panaji, India - A shocking development has emerged in the ongoing investigation into the murders of two Russian women in Goa, India. Aleksei Leonov, the 37-year-old Russian national accused of killing his suspected live-in partner Elena Kasthanova, has confessed to committing multiple murders across various locations, including Goa. According to police, Leonov led investigators to the body of another woman, Elena Vaneeva, in Morjim village, which was found with her throat slit. He also claimed to have killed a 40-year-old woman from Assam in Korgao village by drugging her. The police are currently verifying if this corresponds to a suspected overdose case reported on January 14. During interrogation, Leonov implicated himself in the murders, stating that the two women found dead were not the only victims. However, police are yet to establish a motive for the killings and are skeptical about Leonov's statements due to his alleged use of psychotropic substances. A judicial magistrate remanded Leonov in 14-day police custody for the murder of the two Russian women. Preliminary investigations suggest that jealousy and financial disputes may have been the motives behind the killings. Leonov has been residing in Arambol, Goa, on a long-term visa since 2023. The police have registered separate cases against Leonov, and the investigation is ongoing. As the case unfolds, more details are expected to emerge, shedding light on the motives and circumstances surrounding the multiple murders in Goa.
