In a significant breakthrough, scientists at the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre have confirmed that the gold cladding at the Sabarimala temple was tampered with in a 'methodical' and 'systematic' manner. The Kerala High Court made this observation after reviewing the technical report submitted by the Special Investigation Team (SIT). The court's statement comes after a detailed chemical analysis of the gold plates, which revealed that the original gold-clad plates were replaced with freshly-painted components in 2019. The analysis also showed that the new plates had a different composition, indicating a deliberate attempt to misappropriate the temple's assets. The gold plates were allegedly removed and replaced during a renovation and replating exercise in 2019. The SIT collected samples from the gold plates in November 2025 and forwarded them to the VSSC for analysis. The report has provided critical evidence that points to an organised conspiracy to steal the temple's assets. The court has directed the SIT to record statements from scientific experts and technical personnel at the VSSC. The SIT has also identified three more suspects in one case and two more suspects in the second case. The Sabarimala temple has been at the centre of a gold scandal, with 11 people, including top officials and politicians, already arrested in connection with the case. The court's observation has reinforced the suspicions of misappropriation and pilferage of the temple's assets.
