The Delhi High Court has issued a significant ruling, ordering social media intermediaries to remove all content that infringes Bollywood actor Salman Khan's personality rights within three days. This move comes in response to Khan's petition seeking protection of his rights, which his lawyer claimed were being misused by various entities. According to the court's order, social media companies must treat Khan's suit as a complaint under the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules 2021 and take necessary steps to remove the offending content. The court has also directed other entities, such as e-commerce platforms marketing Khan's merchandise, to remove content that violates his personality rights. This ruling is in line with the court's previous direction on November 27, which established a statutory first step for urgent takedowns of infringing or objectionable content. The matter will be next heard on May 18. The court's decision aims to protect Khan's rights and prevent the misuse of his personality by various entities.
