The Supreme Court has denied bail to Chukka Shilpa, a practicing advocate and accused member of a Maoist front organization, citing the severity of allegations against her. Shilpa, who was arrested in June 2022, is accused of recruiting young women into the banned CPI (Maoist) through her alleged involvement with Chaitanya Mahila Sangham (CMS).The case, which dates back to 2017, involves the disappearance of a nursing student, Radha, who was allegedly radicalized and inducted into the Maoist organization by Shilpa and other CMS members. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has alleged that CMS functioned as a feeder organization, identifying and grooming young women before channeling them into the Maoist group.Shilpa's bail plea was earlier rejected by the NIA Special Court and the Andhra Pradesh High Court, which found prima facie evidence indicating her role in influencing and recruiting women into the banned outfit. The Supreme Court has now directed that the trial be concluded within four months, underscoring the gravity of the allegations and the need for a swift resolution. Additional solicitor general SD Sanjay, appearing for the NIA, highlighted the seriousness of the charges against Shilpa, emphasizing the need to bring the trial to a logical conclusion without further delay.
