A 51-year-old teacher, who also served as a Booth Level Officer (BLO), took his own life at a government school in Shivamogga's Shikaripur taluk on Tuesday. According to police, the incident occurred during recess when the teacher, who had been experiencing work-related stress, allegedly hanged himself inside the classroom. The deceased, who had been carrying out voter verification work in the village that morning, had reportedly expressed concerns about work pressure to his wife earlier in the day. Inspecting the scene, officials found no signs of external pressures from the education department, with the block education officer stating that the teacher was performing his duties normally. However, Shikaripur police inspector Anand Patil revealed that the teacher had shared his stress with his wife, citing severe work pressure as a contributing factor. The wife had advised him to opt for a Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) due to their children's almost completed education. An investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause of the tragic event. A case has been registered under section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023 at the Shikaripur rural police station.
