Karnataka's ruling Congress party remains embroiled in a power struggle, with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah leaving the fate of his position in the hands of the party high command. Speaking on Tuesday, Siddaramaiah emphasized that the high command must intervene to put an end to the ongoing uncertainty. He stressed that legislators are free to express their opinions to the party leadership, but ultimately, it is the high command's decision that will prevail. The speculation surrounding a possible change in the Chief Minister's position has intensified, following the Congress government's milestone of reaching the halfway mark of its five-year term on November 20. The alleged 'power-sharing' agreement between Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM D K Shivakumar in 2023 has added fuel to the fire. A group of six Congress legislators backing Shivakumar recently traveled to New Delhi to meet with the high command, and more are expected to follow suit. Meanwhile, Siddaramaiah has indicated that he will abide by the high command's decision, saying, 'Let's see what opinion they give. Ultimately, the high command has to make the decision.' When asked about the Cabinet reshuffle, Siddaramaiah stated, 'It will happen when the high command says.' He also clarified that he has no immediate plans to meet with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. The ongoing leadership tussle within the party has sparked speculation about the fate of Shivakumar's chances of becoming Chief Minister, with some party insiders suggesting that approval for a Cabinet reshuffle would signify Siddaramaiah's continued tenure as Chief Minister, effectively scuttling Shivakumar's aspirations.
