Maharashtra has a new deputy chief minister, with Sunetra Pawar, a seasoned politician and wife of the late Ajit Pawar, set to make history as the state's first female deputy chief minister. Sunetra Pawar, 62, is expected to be sworn in on Saturday, following her possible election as the leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) legislature party. Party leader Sharad Pawar, who is also Ajit Pawar's uncle, claimed he was not aware of Sunetra Pawar's appointment as deputy chief minister, despite discussions about a reunification of the NCP factions scheduled for February 12. Sunetra Pawar's entry into politics comes after her unsuccessful bid in the 2022 Lok Sabha elections. She was elected to the Rajya Sabha on June 18, 2022. The swearing-in ceremony is expected to be a low-key event at Lok Bhavan around 5 pm on Saturday.
