The Uttar Pradesh Police have filed chargesheets in seven of the 10 cases related to the September 26 violence in Bareilly, with cleric Tauqeer Raza, the main accused, named in all the cases. Raza, president of the Ittehad-e-Millat Council, allegedly masterminded the violence that erupted during protests linked to a controversy over posters bearing the words 'I Love Muhammad.' According to officials, Raza tasked his close aides to mobilize a crowd and incite an attack on police personnel. The violence resulted in mobs opening fire, pelting stones, and looting at five locations in the city. Raza was arrested on the night of the incident and later shifted to the Fatehgarh jail. Chargesheets have been filed in three new cases, taking the total to seven, while the investigation is ongoing in the remaining three. The probe has implicated several other accused, including Raza's close associates, in the violence. The police are yet to file chargesheets in the remaining three cases, with two being investigated by the crime branch.
