Telugu Desam Party MP Appalanaidu Kallisetti made a powerful statement on Monday by riding a bicycle to Parliament, wearing a mask, to raise awareness about the severe air pollution affecting Delhi. The city has been grappling with poor air quality, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) frequently reaching 'severe' levels. Residents have been reporting health issues, including respiratory problems and eye irritation, prompting authorities to impose measures like construction bans and work-from-home directives. Delhi woke up to a thick blanket of smog on Monday, with the AQI standing at 441, the third consecutive day in the 'severe' category. Flight operations were disrupted, with 61 flights cancelled and over 400 delayed. The Delhi airport issued a travel advisory, warning passengers of possible disruptions. In response to the crisis, the Commission for Air Quality Management invoked Stage IV of the Graped Response Action Plan, banning all construction and demolition activities in the Delhi-NCR region. The Delhi government also directed 50% of staff in government and private offices to work from home, while schools were instructed to conduct classes in hybrid mode. Kallisetti's gesture highlights the need for a pollution-free Delhi and a collective effort to combat the issue. His message is clear: the public is suffering due to pollution, and it's time to take action.
