Mumbai: In a show of unity, Uddhav and Raj Thackeray, cousins and leaders of the Shiv Sena (UBT) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), respectively, came together to mark the birth centennial of their founder, Balasaheb Thackeray. The event, held at the Shanmukhananda Hall, marked their first joint public appearance since the Mumbai civic elections. At the event, the Thackeray cousins reiterated their commitment to their 'Marathi Manoos' agenda, which aims to protect the interests of Maharashtra's native sons and daughters. Despite losing the BMC polls, the duo maintained that their core support base remains intact, with 71 seats won in Marathi-dominated areas of the city. Uddhav Thackeray criticized the BJP for thinking they can finish the Shiv Sena (UBT), saying it's an idea, not just a party. He warned that the BJP's attempts to buy votes and undermine the Sena's unity will not succeed. Raj Thackeray distanced himself from the MNS's decision to support the Shiv Sena in Kalyan, calling it 'disgusting' and saying he had no choice but to do so due to pressure from his newly elected corporators. The event assumes significance as it comes against the backdrop of the Kalyan episode, where five MNS corporators extended their support to the Shiv Sena chief Eknath Shinde-led party. Uddhav Thackeray praised Balasaheb Thackeray for uniting Hindus and Maharashtra's sons of the soil, saying it's a legacy that cannot be erased.
