A devastating incident has shaken the city of Bengaluru, as two young nursing students lost their lives after being struck by a Vande Bharat Express train on the outskirts of the city. Sterlin Eliza Shaji, 19, and Justin Joseph, 20, both from Kerala, were enrolled in a BSc Nursing programme at a private college in Bengaluru. According to police reports, the students were attempting to cross the railway tracks near Chikkabanavara railway station at around 2:35 pm on Sunday when the Belagavi-bound Vande Bharat train passed through the section, resulting in instant fatalities. The students' bodies were severely mutilated, and an Unnatural Death Report (UDR) has been filed at the Bengaluru Rural Railway Police Station. Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage to determine whether the incident was a case of misjudgement while crossing or if any other angle, including suicide, needs to be probed. This tragic incident is not an isolated one, as a similar incident occurred in Bihar's Purnea in October, where four people lost their lives and another was critically injured after a speeding Vande Bharat train struck a group of pedestrians.
