Trump Repeats Claim of Saving 10 Million Lives, India Rejects Third-Party Mediation Role

US President Donald Trump has once again claimed that he prevented a war between India and Pakistan, stating that Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif thanked him for saving 'at least 10 million people.' Trump made this assertion during an event marking the renaming of a US street in his honor. The US President cited his administration's foreign policy record, highlighting several peace deals and a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. However, India has consistently rejected Trump's claims, stating that the ceasefire was achieved directly between the two countries without any third-party mediation. According to Indian officials, Pakistan's Director General of Military Operations contacted his Indian counterpart on May 10, requesting an end to hostilities, following India's launch of Operation Sindoor in response to a terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir. The ceasefire was subsequently agreed upon by both sides. Trump's remarks come amid renewed attention on his Nobel Peace Prize ambitions, following a meeting at the White House with Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado. However, the Nobel Committee has clarified that Nobel Prizes cannot be withdrawn, transferred, or passed on to another individual, contradicting Trump's claim that Machado had presented him with her Nobel Peace Prize medal.
