US President Donald Trump has once again claimed credit for preventing a potential war between India and Pakistan in May 2025. Speaking at the White House, Trump said that he prevented a nuclear conflict between the two nuclear-armed neighbors, citing his administration's pressure and tariff threats as key factors in resolving the tensions. According to Trump, the situation was dire, with eight planes shot down and a potential nuclear exchange looming. He also claimed that the Prime Minister of Pakistan praised him for saving 10 million people, although this claim has not been independently verified. Trump has made similar claims in the past, arguing that his administration's efforts helped to broker a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. However, the Indian government has consistently rejected these assertions, stating that the ceasefire was achieved directly between the two countries following India's launch of Operation Sindoor in response to a terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir. Indian officials have said that Pakistan's Director General of Military Operations contacted his Indian counterpart on May 10 and requested to end hostilities, leading to a ceasefire agreement between the two sides. Trump's claims have been met with skepticism, particularly given his history of exaggerating his role in international conflicts. The Nobel Peace Prize, which Trump has repeatedly sought, has not been awarded to him.
