A police inspector has lost his life in a fierce gunbattle with suspected terrorists in the remote village of Soan in Udhampur district, Jammu and Kashmir. The encounter began on Monday evening when security forces launched a search operation following a tip-off about the presence of three Jaish-e-Mohammad operatives. The joint team of police, army, and CRPF had established contact with the terrorists, but the operation was suspended due to darkness and treacherous terrain. According to officials, one SOG jawan was injured in the initial exchange of fire and later succumbed to his injuries. One terrorist is believed to have been injured in the gunfight, and the security forces are maintaining a tight cordon around the area to prevent any escape. Reinforcements have been deployed to strengthen the cordon and neutralize the remaining terrorists, who are believed to be holed up in the forest village. The operation is expected to resume at dawn on Tuesday, with security forces working to track down the remaining terrorists and bring them to justice.
