Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh has launched a major crackdown on alleged Rohingya and Bangladeshi infiltrators, with orders to establish detention centres in every division. According to a senior official, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has instructed 17 urban local bodies to create detailed lists of illegal immigrants under their jurisdictions. The lists will be submitted to Commissioners and Inspectors General for further scrutiny. In the first phase, dedicated detention centres will be set up to hold individuals identified during the verification process. The chief minister has also directed that detention centres be established in every division. Verification, documentation, and field assessments have begun in several districts, following the chief minister's instructions. Adityanath had previously directed district magistrates to take prompt and strict action against illegal immigrants and establish temporary detention centres in each district. The centres will house illegal immigrants with foreign citizenship until the necessary verification process is completed. Adityanath has stated that those held in detention centres will be deported to their countries of origin as per established procedures. Uttar Pradesh shares an open border with Nepal, and checks on residents of other nationalities will be enforced.
