In a dramatic rescue operation, a man from Uttar Pradesh's Baghpat has been freed from a notorious cyber-fraud syndicate in Cambodia and safely repatriated to India. Vikas Rana, a 30-year-old resident of Ghenaura Silver Nagar village, had traveled to Cambodia in search of employment but was instead forced to work against his will in a 'slavery centre' where he was part of a lucrative cyber-fraud operation. Rana's wife, Dolly, had filed a complaint with the police, alleging that her husband was lured abroad with a fake job offer and confined against his will. Acting on the complaint, the Baghpat police initiated a probe and maintained close communication with the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre and the Indian Embassy in Cambodia. Through continuous coordination, the Cambodian authorities were able to rescue Rana from the alleged slavery centre. The operation highlights the growing menace of cyber slavery, where people are trafficked abroad with fake job offers and forced to run online fraud operations. This organised crime network has been identified in several countries, including Cambodia. Rana's rescue is a testament to the effective collaboration between Indian authorities and international partners in combating cybercrime and protecting victims of human trafficking. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of verifying job offers and being cautious of suspicious activities that may lead to exploitation.
