In a shocking case of police misconduct, four personnel have been booked for assault, extortion, and verbal abuse in Uttar Pradesh's Ballia. According to officials, the FIR was filed at the Dokati police station on Friday, following a court order from Chief Judicial Magistrate Shailesh Kumar Pandey. The accused include former station officer Madan Patel and three constables Rinku Gupta, Jyotish, and Ashish Maurya. Mantu Yadav, a resident of Dalan Chhapra village, had filed a complaint against the police personnel, alleging that they physically assaulted and verbally abused him during a night checking drive in February 2024. The complainant claimed that the police demanded a bribe of ₹40,000 and took ₹1,000 from his pocket. Although a friend paid the bribe, Yadav was later arrested on charges of transporting cannabis on his motorcycle. The court ordered an investigation into the matter after Yadav filed a petition against the police personnel in August 2024. The Dokati station officer has been directed to register a case against the accused, and the police are currently investigating the allegations. The case highlights the need for accountability and transparency in law enforcement agencies to prevent such instances of police misconduct.
