In a disturbing case of domestic abuse, a police constable in Uttar Pradesh has registered a case against her husband and in-laws, alleging that they demanded dowry and subjected her to physical and emotional torture. The constable, who is stationed at the Bisalpur police station in Pilibhit district, claimed that her husband, also a constable, and his family members began demanding a Scorpio SUV just two days after their wedding in January 2023. When she expressed her inability to fulfill this demand, they allegedly abused and assaulted her, even threatening her life. The constable alleged that the abuse continued throughout her pregnancy, with her in-laws pressuring her to take medication to conceive a boy. She gave birth to a son in January 2024, but claimed that the assaults she endured during pregnancy left the child with injuries and seizures. The case took a dark turn when the constable accused her brother-in-law of attempting to rape and molest her. In October 2025, she alleged that he raped her at gunpoint in Meerut, leading to a separate case being registered against him. The constable's husband and in-laws have been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Dowry Prohibition Act. The case is being investigated by the Bisalpur police station, where the constable is stationed. This case highlights the ongoing issue of dowry demands and domestic abuse in India, and the need for stronger laws and support systems to protect victims of such crimes.
