US Ambassador Sergio Gor marked a new chapter in India-US relations as he presented his credentials to President Droupadi Murmu. Ahead of his assumption of duties, Gor expressed his commitment to advancing shared priorities in defence, trade, technology, and critical minerals, aiming to strengthen the bilateral partnership between the two nations. This comes at a time of increased cooperation, following a recent phone conversation between External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and US counterpart Marco Rubio, which covered areas such as trade, defence, security, and civil nuclear cooperation. Gor, a seasoned diplomat who previously served as Assistant to the President and Director of Presidential Personnel at the White House, also announced plans for India to join Pax Silica, a key American initiative aimed at securing a resilient global supply chain for semiconductors and AI technology, by next month. The US envoy's conciliatory tone and emphasis on India's importance as a partner for the US signal a positive shift in bilateral ties, which had experienced strains over trade-related issues in recent months. As the 27th US ambassador to India, Gor is set to work closely with the Indian government and people to achieve shared goals and further elevate the US-India relationship, which is poised for growth and cooperation in various fields. The development is seen as a significant step towards strengthening the partnership between the two great democracies.
