A 36-year-long cat and mouse game has finally come to an end for Pradeep Kumar Saxena, a man from Uttar Pradesh who had been on the run since murdering his brother in 1987. Saxena, who was granted bail in 1989, disappeared and managed to evade arrest for decades by changing his appearance, identity, and even religion. He adopted the alias Abdul Rahim and converted to Islam in 2002, all in an effort to conceal his true identity and continue living a life free from the law. However, a renewed investigation led by the Bareilly Police, following a directive from the Allahabad High Court, ultimately led to Saxena's capture. After questioning his family and gathering information from locals, police tracked Saxena to Moradabad, where he had been living under his new identity as a driver. His cover was blown when residents in the Katghar area remembered him as the 'Saxena driver.' Saxena has since confessed to the murder and his decades-long evasion of justice, and was sent to jail on November 28. The case highlights the challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in tracking down individuals who change their identities and evade arrest for extended periods.
