Uttarakhand's Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has taken swift action against alleged corruption in the state's Home Guards and Civil Defence department. DIG Amitabh Srivastava, a senior police officer, has been suspended pending a joint inquiry into the procurement of uniforms worth ₹1 crore, which were purchased at an inflated cost of ₹3 crore. The investigation, initiated by Director General PVK Prasad, revealed that Srivastava had colluded with a contractor to manipulate the tendering process, causing a financial loss of ₹2 crore to the state exchequer. Prasad had flagged the issue after noticing that the same inflated rates were proposed for the next financial year. The state government has formed a joint inquiry committee to look into the irregularities and is considering a new system of providing uniform allowances to Home Guard personnel, allowing them to purchase their own uniforms. Chief Minister Dhami has emphasized the state's zero-tolerance policy towards corruption and has assured that strict action will be taken against any officer or employee found guilty. The suspension of DIG Srivastava is a significant move towards addressing the issue of corruption in the state's Home Guards and Civil Defence department. The government's swift action is seen as a step towards restoring transparency and accountability in the department.
