In a significant development, the Madras High Court has set aside an order that required the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to grant a censor certificate to Vijay's highly anticipated film 'Jana Nayagan'. The decision, made by the First Bench of the High Court, effectively leaves the film's release uncertain. The film, reportedly Vijay's last before his full-fledged entry into politics, was initially scheduled for a Pongal release earlier this month. However, the CBFC had referred the matter to a revising committee following a complaint from one of the examining committee members. The High Court's decision, made on Tuesday, allows the producer of 'Jana Nayagan' to reapproach the single judge who had initially ordered the CBFC to grant the censor certificate. The court has also given the single judge liberty to review the decision to refer the matter to the revising committee. The case has been ongoing since December 22, 2025, when the producer received a communication from the Regional Officer stating that the film had been recommended for screening and the issuance of a censor certificate. However, this decision was put on hold following a complaint, and the matter was referred to the revising committee. The High Court's ruling has cast a shadow over the film's release, and it remains to be seen whether it will meet the release schedule. The producer will now have to wait for the single judge to dispose of the case, which may take some time.
