Panaji: Director Razneesh Ghai's latest war film, '120 Bahadur', is a testament to the power of storytelling and the impact it can have on people's lives. The film, starring Farhan Akhtar, tells the gripping story of the Battle of Rezang La during the 1962 India-China conflict. What inspired Ghai to bring this story to life was a conversation with his brother, Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai, many years ago. Ghai was deeply moved by the story of the Charlie Company of the Kumaon Regiment, who fought against the Chinese forces in sub-zero conditions. The film focuses on the heroic stand of these soldiers, particularly Major Shaitan Singh, who was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra for his bravery. Despite the odds, the soldiers fought valiantly, with only six out of 120 members surviving the battle. However, the film faced controversy when members of the Ahir community, who formed the majority of the Charlie Company, filed a petition alleging that the film distorted historical facts. Ghai dismissed the criticism, stating that the film gives due credit to the Ahirs and does not erase their role in the battle. The petition, filed in the Punjab and Haryana high court, sought changes to the film's title and certification. However, the court disposed of the petition, and the film premiered at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa. Actor Farhan Akhtar, who played the role of Major Shaitan Singh, said that the film is a reminder of the sacrifices made by our country's heroes. Ghai, who praised Akhtar for his support during production, plans to take a break from the war genre and work on a horror movie next. '120 Bahadur' is a powerful tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of our country's soldiers, and it is a testament to the impact that storytelling can have on people's lives. The film is a must-watch for anyone interested in India's history and the stories of our country's heroes.
