The list, which includes the teachers' names, roll numbers, and subjects, was released after the court directed the WBSSC to make public the information on tainted candidates. The Supreme Court had earlier cancelled all 25,752 appointments, citing the inability to segregate tainted from non-tainted candidates. However, the Calcutta High Court has now ordered the WBSSC to publish the optical mark recognition (OMR) sheets of all candidates who appeared for the fresh tests for recruitment of class 9-10 and class 11-12 teachers. The move comes as a response to petitions filed by candidates who appeared for the recent written tests, alleging that some tainted candidates from 2016 had qualified for the next round. The petitioners have pointed out that the Supreme Court had directed that only non-tainted teachers may be allowed to participate in the fresh selection process. Education Minister Bratya Basu has assured that the WBSSC will complete the recruitment process by December 31, as directed by the Supreme Court. The development has sparked opposition from various parties, who have accused the Trinamool Congress government of lacking transparency in the recruitment process. The case is linked to a larger probe into the appointment of non-teaching staff and teaching staff by the WBSSC and the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education between 2014 and 2021, when TMC leader Partha Chatterjee was education minister. Chatterjee was arrested in July 2022 and released on bail earlier this month after being in judicial custody for three years. The Calcutta High Court will hear the case again on December 10, with the judge directing the WBSSC to ensure transparency throughout the recruitment process."
