The upcoming winter session of Parliament is expected to see heated discussions, with the Opposition demanding a discussion on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls and the recent blast near Delhi's Red Fort. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju has agreed to discuss the SIR at the Business Advisory Committee meeting later on Sunday. The Congress has also called for a national security discussion, citing concerns over air pollution, voter list purity, farmers' issues, and foreign policy. "The government seems to be trying to derail Parliament and finish off our democracy," said Congress Deputy Leader Gaurav Gogoi. Opposition leaders are united in their determination to ensure that the "temple of democracy" is not used solely for praising one individual. They are seeking a comprehensive discussion on key issues affecting the country. In a statement ahead of the all-party meeting, Rijiju had urged lawmakers to work with a 'cool head' and avoid heated debates. However, it remains to be seen whether the upcoming session will be as smooth as the minister had hoped. The winter session, scheduled to last 15 days, is expected to be the shortest in Parliamentary history. With the Opposition demanding a more substantial discussion on pressing issues, the stage is set for a potentially contentious session.
