Amaravati: The YSRCP has accused the NDA government of running a massive scam in the privatisation of government medical colleges under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. Leader G Amarnath alleged that the government is 'plundering public assets' by handing over valuable colleges, hospitals, and land to private players. During a press conference, Amarnath recalled the achievements of the previous YSRCP government, which obtained permissions for 17 medical colleges and completed seven institutions between 2019 and 2024. In contrast, the current government has decided to privatise 10 colleges, jeopardising public healthcare and wasting assets worth thousands of crores. The opposition leader claimed that the state's debt has risen to over ₹2.5 lakh crore within 18 months. He also alleged that an additional scam is being designed to pay salaries to staff of the privatised colleges for two years, imposing a burden of nearly ₹1,400 crore on the public exchequer. Amarnath accused Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu of distorting parliamentary reports and concealing kickbacks linked to the privatisation process. He cited the YSRCP's one-crore signature campaign, which reflects strong public opposition to the privatisation of medical colleges. Naidu defended the decision to develop medical colleges under the PPP model, saying it would ensure more efficient services. However, the YSRCP has vowed to continue agitation against the PPP mode until the government withdraws its decision. If the party returns to power, Amarnath promised a probe into the alleged scam.
